Cold Weather Policy

BAYB Cold Weather Policy:

BAYB will make a reasonable effort to observe weather forecasts and make game decisions related to cold weather as early as possible.  Below are guidelines that BAYB will use to make game decisions.  Please note that other circumstances may be involved in game decisions (these are for Cold Temperatures) and these are general guidelines rather than absolute rules.

1. For 7 yr olds and younger, game decision should be based on forecast and feels like temperature (feels like must be 40 degrees or higher). Precipitation should be considered as well.

2. For 8 yr olds and up, games should be postponed or canceled if the ambient or “feels like” temperature (when applicable) is below 32 degrees and forecast should be considered.

Note: If ambient temperature is between 32 degrees and 40 degrees and it is raining or snowing games should be postponed or canceled based on forecast.

3. Games in progress when the temperature drops below the above limits may be continued or suspended pending game status.  BAYB officials, umpires, and coaches will be consulted.

As an Example of 2 above, if game time temperature is 35 degrees and the feels like temperature is 33 degrees but the forecast is for temperatures to drop a decision may be made to postpone or cancel games.

As an example of 3 above, if during a game the feels like temperature falls below criteria (32 or 40 degrees), officials may continue the game if it may be completed or considered official within a reasonable time (30 or so minutes).
